You might be shocked to find that Martin Scorsese is apparently considering returning to the subject of Christianity and its central figure after he made one of the most notorious movies on it with The Last Temptation Of Christ (and addressed religion once more in Silence). However, the director was granted a secret audience with Pope Francis during a post-Cannes tour of Italy and has since announced plans to produce a new movie about Jesus.
According to numerous reports, Scorsese made the statement on Saturday at a meeting in Rome at the Vatican. "I have responded to the Pope's appeal to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay for a film about Jesus," he said. And I'm about to begin producing it.
We are aware that this destroys the hopes of those hoping he would change his mind and agree to helm the next Marvel film, but let's face it, we all want as many films as Scorsese is willing to produce.
Killers Of The Flower Moon, his most recent film, had its Cannes premiere and will be available in theaters starting on October 6.
