The film Dumb Money, which Craig Gillespie directed, tells the crazy true tale of the YouTuber who brought down Wall Street and made a fortune by making the video game store GameStop the hottest company in the world.
Can amateur stock watchers cause problems for the stock market? It has previously happened, most notably most recently with the GameStop incident. This tale has now been made into the movie Dumb Money, starring Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, and Seth Rogen. See the trailer...
Keith Gill (Dano), a regular guy, is in the middle of all and is the one who started it all by investing his entire life savings in the company and posting about it. His and everyone else's lives begin to explode as soon as his social media posts begin to go viral. Everyone becomes wealthy as a stock tip turns into a movement, but when the billionaires fight back, everything is flipped upside down for both sides.
The cast for this film is impressive and includes actors like Shailene Woodley, Nick Offerman, Anthony Ramos, Vincent D'Onofrio, and America Ferrera. Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo penned the script, which was based on Ben Mezrich's book The Antisocial Network. The UK premiere of Dumb Money is scheduled for September 22.
